Ecotopia Österlen, formerly Futura Ekogård, is located within the detailed district plan for the protected area local to Mariavall’s monastery. Today, besides Mariavall’s Mother of Jesus Mary Convent, which was elevated to an abbey in 2007, there is also the Saint Benedict Monastery, inaugurated in 2009. The land was granted by the Count and Countess Sparre. The convent was designed by the Benedictine monk Hans van der Laan and the monastery by architect Per-Olof Kippel. Our common bus stop is named ’Mariavalls kloster.’
